We as a team make an attempt to curb the gap between the produces of food(farmers) and its final consumers. But why this?
Since 1995, more 300,000 farmer's have ended their lives out of which 60,000 were from Mumbai. What caused them to take these steps are the debts they are ridden over, almost 25% of farmers in India still live below the poverty line. Every government in their manifesto would ​boast about how they would waive loans for farmers or give them subsidies but what this does is to simply demean their profession and not lead them to build a direct relationship between the main producers- the farmers and the final consumers us. Most farmers because of the oppression of middlemen and their financial situations can't get the opportunity to come to sell in the city and earn on their own. They end up selling their produce to the middlemen who pay them really less. It's high time we always wait for the government to take the lead, it's time we take a step. It's time we start purchasing our groceries from the farmer's markets. A lot of you might have heard of it in movies(for those who don't know its a market where the farmers themselves come to the city to sell their produce) but it's time we attend them in our city and give them a boost. This website is developed with the intention to create awareness about the Farmer's markets that are currently present in Mumbai. Some might be shocked to hear about this concept in India but it is already in place, all you need to do is go to the farmer's market instead of the big stores to buy your groceries from. This will not only boost farmer's income but you even get an opportunity to interact with the real hero who spends days and night to produce food for you to survive. Also, such markets can be beneficial as they might have organic produce.
